My Passions: - Applying data science to scientific problems goals across a wide range of disciplines. Current experience in synthetic biology. Interested in talking to others about carbon capture utilization and sequestration, energy systems, materials (batteries), simulations, carbon markets, or grid optimization. - Helping to alleviate communication barriers surrounding controversial science topics, particularly climate change. Bio: Bryce is a graduate student in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin -Madison. He has roughly 4 years of experience in applying computational methods to scientific problems -- particularly in the life sciences. He has worked on projects across all dataset types, including protein fitness, text, image, and numerical data. He prides himself on trying to be a useful data scientist to domain scientist's by taking the time understand domain expertise (through physics knowledge) and only apply as advanced computational tools that are necessary to solve the given problem. (This saves time and consequently money for all stakeholders involved.) Bryce is also interested in conversations surrounding the climate, particularly how to alleviate barriers and teach other scientists how to talk to non-science audiences. He recently started a show called "Unperfect Science with Bryce" which helps to cover the complexities to solutions in AI and climate change policy. His hobbies include triathlons, hiking, writing, water skiing, and pretty much any other outdoor activity.
