I was Hatch's primary corrosion specialist as part of the Non-Destructive testing team. I provided a wide variety of corrosion services in many different industries such as: Mining and Metallurgy, Ports and Marine Structures, Rail and Transit, Roads and Bridges, Water Treatment and Utilities, and EnergyI worked on over 150 projects during my time with Hatch adding the value of proactive corrosion engineering and rehabilitation technologies

I have a Master's of Applied Science which was attained through research on the corrosion behaviour in automotive magnesium alloys. The motivation behind this research is to better utilize light weight alloys to improve the overall fuel efficiency in the automotive industry. My involvement in this research was a key influence in my current understanding and perspective on the impact corrosion engineering can have on real world industries. In addition, this experience defined my values and appreciation of self motivated learning, critical thinking, and leadership.The primary focus of my research was investigating environmentally assisted cracking behavior of these alloys to identify conditions which accelerate the initiation and propagation of stress corrosion cracks. During my time at McMaster I gained an in depth technical knowledge base of corrosion engineering and electro-chemistry and developed an invaluable skill set in failure analysis and corrosion investigation techniques.

• Lead a proto-type detection camera system project from installation through to operation.• Tailored operation of camera detection software to properly identify corner defects of continuously cast steel slabs.• Redefined constraints to eliminate operating costs due to failure and reprocessing through daily analysis of coil capability reports that failed mechanical testing. • Reduced anticipated retraining costs by converting outdated database systems to a more efficient, user-friendly program. • Used Visual basic to redesign a core information system to communicate through Microsoft Office to monitor data tables that link steel grade specifications to steel grade process parameters.

• Calculating heating times for thermal treatments to optimize mechanical properties and corrosion resistance in various stainless steel samples.• Performing selected heat treatments for stainless steel samples using a programmable industrial heat treatment furnace. • Researching previous heat treatments on Duplex Stainless Steels, to optimize properties through precipitation hardening.• Preparing samples for microscopic analysis by grinding, polishing and electro-etching.• Analyzing selected stainless steel samples using optical, SEM, SEM-FEG and TEG microscopes and examining the surfaces.
