Reporting directly to the Controller, I was responsible for leading my team through month-, quarter-, and year-end close from start to finish. Additionally, I was in charge of compiling the monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial statement packages, as well as the reporting of key financial information to upper management and other stakeholders. As my tenure in this role coincided with a departmental restructuring initiative, I was constantly involved in the recruiting and hiring of new teammates. I was also a key point-of-contact during the interim and yearend fieldwork of our annual audit.

As the Senior Accountant, I was responsible for the timely reconciliation of dozens of accounts, as well as the preparation of thousands of journal entries. As a senior associate, I served as the in-charge team member of various engagement teams, and was responsible for supervising and directing associates and interns. I've gained experience designing, performing, and reviewing audit testing over the full spectrum of the accounting function. As the in-charge of a large public company audit, I performed extensive tests of controls and documented evaluations of accounting systems. Summer-long internship within the audit department of Grant Thornton LLP in Hartford, CT. Through this internship I was able to get hands-on experience as an assistant auditor on multiple engagements, spanning both the public and private sector as well as not-for-profit engagements. I gained new insights into how the audit function works and learned how to contribute to the success of the audit team as a whole. Additionally, through a project set up by GT, I was given the opportunity to present to a board of audit partners regarding a potential new client acquisition. Through this project I gained valuable knowledge regarding the full spectrum of the client engagement process.

Summer-long internship opportunity with Brooks Brothers. Through the use of SAP software, I independently created and edited hundreds of company asset accounts and ran various reports to monitor company records. I was tasked with preparing monthly fixed asset reports and intercompany reconciliation reports using financial data, and also was responsible for allocating monthly wire bills to fixed asset suppliers. Other learning opportunities included assisting in reconciling physical fixture inventory and sending out confirmations for the internal audit function.
