Project manager for a state-wide geophysical groundwater well logging project collaborating with the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Performed a lead role modeling groundwater resources. Conducted mine subsidence studies requiring identification, mapping, water quality testing, and quantification of mining impacts on groundwater aquifers. Collaborated in the planning, organizing, and implementation of West Virginia’s state-wide large quantity water user (LQU) registration program. Supported the environmental resources analyst responsible for reviewing and approving water management plans for horizontal well drilling. Maintained and updated state wide water budget equations as new monthly evapotranspiration rates were developed.

Monitoring, quantifying, recording, photographing, and reporting of streamflow variability caused by nearby long wall mining activity, while following scientific protocols and maintaining high levels of QA/QC. Navigating to field locations utilizing Trimble GPS receivers to record data from streams, groundwater wells, drinking wells and rain gauges. Equipment utilized: Marsh Mcbirney flo-mate 2000, Heron static dipper-T water level meters, methane detectors, automated data loggers, pressure transducers, cameras, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access).

Conducted outdoor Dendrology labs consisting of identification of trees and herbaceous plants. Communicated scientific terminology into understandable and informative species characteristics. Responsible for a safe and comfortable atmosphere during each lab session, while being confronted with unpredictable environments and inclement weather. Forest Ecology labs were conducted using Silva growth and yield modeling software to project current forest stands into the distant future. Duties entailed communication of software processes, patients with software/human errors, step by step instruction on importance of modeling variables and variable sensitivity. Various other tasks: grading test/assignments, answering emails in a timely manner, compiling final grades, operating a 12 passenger van, preparing/administering exams, and communicating lab progress to administrators.

Assisted with updating forest stand delineation to be utilized in development of Savage River State Forest- Sustainable Forest Management Planning. Responsible for forest stand data collection and site surveys using “Silva-Oak” protocols focusing on both overstory tree data (species, quality, condition, volume, etc.) as well as understory conditions with regard to tree regeneration and herbaceous plant layers; ground truthing and mapping of stand boundaries using Trimble GPS units; field data entry and processing using “Silva software” and subsequent stand level data base record updates; assisted with boundary maintenance.

Oakland, Maryland - Potomac Garrett State Forest

Assisted with updating forest stand delineation to be utilized in development of PGSF- Sustainable Forest Management Planning. Responsible for forest stand data collection and site surveys using “Silva-Oak” protocols focusing on both overstory tree data (species, quality, condition, volume, etc.) as well as understory conditions with regard to tree regeneration and herbaceous plant layers; ground truthing and mapping of stand boundaries using Trimble GPS units; field data entry and processing using “Silva software” and subsequent stand level data base record updates. Also marked and cruised timber volumes for harvests on state forest timber sales; assisted with boundary maintenance.
