Fire Prevention Coordinator
CurrentDesigns, organizes and presents fire, life safety, and earthquake and community preparedness programs for schools, civic groups, service groups, local businesses, City departments, and the general public. Designs pamphlets, visual presentations, and other informational material. Works closely with press and media as one of Fire’s Public Information Officers. Represents the Fire Department at a variety of public events and fairs. Distributes informational material and coordinates the participation of sworn personnel and the presence of firefighting apparatus. Serves as a resource for schools, civic groups, service groups, local businesses, City departments, and the general public in the development of safety/training programs. Works cooperatively with civic groups, service groups, local businesses, and City departments to promote mutual interests.Promotes Fire Department activities and events by developing informational materials and through the use of the media. Maintains and updates the Fire Department’s website and social media pages. Responds to requests for information from the public and other sources.Develops public service announcements on safety issues and coordinates the filming and airing of the announcements on cable television. Reviews and purchases a variety of informational videos for Fire Department use. Coordinates and supervises volunteers in presenting fire and life safety information to the public. Assists with providing public information to the media and the general public pertaining to Fire Department activities and responses to emergency situations. Prepares detailed reports and maintains records. Attends meetings and seminars to receive new information and developments in fire, life safety, and earthquake preparedness. May inspect and evaluate business, mercantile and multi-family residential occupancies for fire and life safety code compliance. May respond to community and citizen based reported fire hazard complaints.
