Supporting Clients in the Nuclear industry to deliver challenging technical projects.

Work Pack Lead on a nuclear waste retrieval project, worth £10M, my key responsibilities included: - Technical management of contractors during the tender phase, Supplier selection and revising and managing technical specifications necessary for the contract placement.- Creating the estimate and risk register to allow for the business case to be sanctioned, - Management of Tier two contractors delivering the Detailed Design, ensuring accountability against the contract schedule and target cost as part of an NEC3 Contract.- Managing the Magnox team to deliver enabling works and review the contractors’ deliverables, to the schedule and budget. - Reporting within Magnox on the progress of the project and attended accountability sessions-Engineering Lead, coordinating engineering efforts between various stakeholders and confirming the contractors design compliance against the specified requirements. - Acting as the 'Supervisor' in the NEC3 contract.

Project Engineer through the lifecycle of a nuclear waste retrieval project, my key responsibilities included; - Lead on the build and operation of a trials rig developed alongside the design for a nuclear waste retrieval plant on site, allowing for plant design to be 'trials led' to time and budget.- Contractor oversight and supervision during the installation of the retrieval plant on site, checking for defects against the design and overall compliance.- Lead role in the commissioning of the plant; through setting to work, functional testing and into active commissioning.

This two-year programme, with a unique formula, allowed me to spend some gaining experience at multiple companies in diverse roles across the nuclear industry. Through this scheme I had time at Magnox as a Plant Systems Engineer, a commercial placement at International Nuclear Services, assistant PM at Fluor and Project Engineer at an EDF Energy Nuclear power station, on their critical path project during an outage.The nucleargraduates programme looks to develop each graduate both technically and behaviourally with a bespoke training programme. This means that I have completed modules from a Post Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Technologies as well as working towards completing the Open University / National Skills Academy for Nuclear Certificate of Nuclear Professionalism. The programme also includes other elements aimed at further developing personal competencies and to experience areas of the working world outside of the nuclear industry. I was sponsored through the nucleargraduate scheme by Magnox Ltd and left this role after completing the two year graduate scheme to join Magnox as staff.

My final placement on the nucleargraduate scheme was in the Multi Projects Group at Fluor. This is provided exposure to every area within a project, from Planning to Procurement to Project Controls to Quality, as well as supporting Engineering Leads as required. The majority of my work was focused at Technical Bid Evaluations & Commercial Bid Evaluations.

For my third placement on the nucleargraduates graduate scheme I was a Project Engineer on an outage critical path project at Heysham 2 EDF site. My key roles included: - Supporting the system engineer, project engineers and project manager as required, due to the emergent nature of works during the outage.- Specifying and procuring of materials at short notice.- Authoring of documents for Operations.- Conducting Project CDM Inductions for everyone who entered the Project area.- Labeling of the system.- Compiling the stations correspondence with the ONR, including the mid-outage report, start-up report, the consent for start up pack and the 28 day Report. This meant I had to liaise with a large amount of stakeholders and organise the report into a standard format and quality checking all the inputs, whilst getting experience of interactions with a regulator.

For the second placement during the nucleargraduates scheme, I elected to be part of the sales team at International Nuclear Services looking at new business opportunities for the company in overseas markets. My key roles were:- Facilitating the sale of intellectual property developed on the NDA estate by presenting proposals through the internal governance process, liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and be the point of contact for the customer. - Offering general support to the rest of the sales team, as required. - Acting secretary for the Sales and Operations meetings.

My first placement as a Plant Systems Engineer at the Chapelcross Nuclear Site that is now in decommissioning. My key Responisibilities included:- Leading walk downs of plant systems on site before writing a report and presenting the findings to the plant health committee.- Writing plant modifications and progressing them through the system to be implemented.- Carrying out investigations to find the current status of the plant. - Providing engineering support to projects on site as required.

I joined a newly established team to tackle the variable quality of data within SAP across global sites. The role was based around best practice and change management; researching and analyzing before standardizing how the company entered and utilized data.Having no SAP knowledge before this, this project led me to experience SAP in full and gain knowledge of most areas of the business.I became a functioning member of the configuration team entering and creating data for the company.
