Captain Long is the Assistant Program Executive Officer for the C5I portfolio. During his previous Captain assignment, he served as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Commandant for Capability responsible for identifying and providing capabilities, competencies, and capacity along with developing standards for the staffing, training, equipping, sustaining, maintaining, and employing Coast Guard forces to meet mission requirements.His operational assignments include Executive Officer and Engineering Officer at Air Station Atlantic City, NJ, where he oversaw all maintenance on a fleet of 11 helicopters, executed search and rescue missions on the East Coast, and completed air intercept missions in the National Capital Region. He was an Instructor Pilot and Assistant Engineering Officer at Sector Corpus Christi, TX. At that unit, he led aircraft maintenance and logistics, conducted pilot training, and flew law enforcement missions along the US-Mexico border. His first operational unit was at Air Station Detroit, MI, where he served as an Aircraft Commander of the H65 Dolphin helicopter supporting missions in the Great Lakes.His staff assignments include Information Systems Division Chief at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, NC. He directed the sustainment of the Asset Logistics Management Information System (ALMIS) and developed the next-generation logistics system (CGLIMS). He is a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) who spent three years as the Business Intelligence Branch Chief at ALC optimizing the supply chain for all Coast Guard aviation assets. He managed the spare parts central warehouse and local stocking levels at the 26 Coast Guard Air Stations using advanced forecasting techniques, modeling, and simulation to maximize an inventory valued at over $1.3 billion.
