I am a senior project engineer, project manager, and review engineer for Thurber Engineering Ltd., based in Victoria, BC. The projects that I manage typically involve providing geotechnical engineering input to a wide variety of civil engineering projects, particularly those involving transportation infrastructure and utilities. My areas of expertise include geotechnical site characterization techniques, soft soils engineering, design and construction of foundations and retaining walls, slope stability, and seismic design including liquefaction assessments.In particular, I have a unique understanding of the effects that installation disturbance has on the cohesive soil strength mobilized by helical piles, which was developed during my M.A.Sc. thesis research that involved field testing of instrumented helical piles installed within soft and highly sensitive clayey silts. This research has led me to develop a new design method for estimating the ultimate axial resistance of helical piles in cohesive soils, which is in the process of being validated through case histories.
