Patent Agent
CurrentSenior Patent Agent
My main job duties include meeting with clients, performing prior art searches and drafting new patent applications; responding to office actions; prosecuting reissue and re-exam applications; performing infringement analysis; and reviewing responses from patent agents and patent attorneys.
Primary Patent Examiner
My job was to research engineering/technical inventions after reading and comprehending these inventions. Next, I would provide technical and logical reasoning via a written paper/brief to the patent applicant as to why I granted or denied the applicant a patent. I served as a Primary Examiner for the mechanical and aerospace engineering disciplines with a specialty in electrical/mechanical thermodynamics and thermal fluids (i.e. heating and cooling) arts. As a Primary Examiner, I was authorized by the Commissioner of Patents to issue patent applications. This level of expertise required a successful completion of a rigorous two-year program where management strictly critiqued my work in all aspects of patent examination including research, rules, procedures, and law.My specialization was to research and examine patents in the heating and cooling fields applied to electrical and mechanical devices and systems. Examples include:• Heating and cooling systems for rooms and buildings and cooling systems for computers, semiconductors, semiconductor processing equipment and electrical systems. • Researched, analyzed then approved or denied patent applications directed toward apparatuses, processes, and methods of manufacturing heat exchangers such as: heat pipes, heat sinks, mechanical and chemical heat storage devices and systems, radiators, evaporators, condensers, regenerators, recuperators, chemical reactors, turbines, latent and two-phase heat transfer devices and systems, liquid and air heat exchangers, controls (i.e. electrical, mechanical and electromechanical) in fluid systems, and hydride systems.
System Engineer
As a Systems Engineer in the Fluid Engineering Division for Horizontal Space Orbiter Payloads at NASA Kennedy Space Center, I was responsible for instructing and supervising a fluid engineering and technical team to integrate payload subsystems for space flights. This involved working with the respective international and national design agencies and Principal Investigators to create Test and Assembly Procedures and Documents that implemented design center drawings to successfully integrate and test Spacelab experiments and flight fluid systems. Projects assigned were communicated, coordinated, implemented, and time managed while working directly with domestic and international scientists and design centers.Highlights included:• Trouble shooting and resolving problems encountered by innovative field engineering design changes and fabricating newly designed hardware. Configured, maintained and operated the Freon, Air and Water Servicers to flow balance flight fluid loops. Also, operated high and ultra high vacuum pump systems to obtain the required vacuum on flight vacuum vent systems in the Spacelab Module.• Reviewed, wrote and incorporated Spacelab project assigned requirements, procedures and engineering drawings into NASA Kennedy Space Center Procedures.• Instructed, conducted and supervised a team of personnel in the testing and integration of space flight experiments. Analyzed, resolved problems, tested and installed flight experiments into the Space Shuttle.• Proposed and implemented a technical standard for leak checking fluid systems.
