Growing up in a small town, my perspective was expanded by joining the US Air Force and working for a Fortune-500 company. I found that individual people think differently, but everybody has similar needs and goals.I'm a Usability Researcher, Technical Writer AND an Engineer. I think that my experiences in all three areas of knowledge caused me to be good at facilitating understanding, and I’ve learned some things about myself:• I like to explain complex ideas to people not familiar with the terminology or concepts that technical people take for granted. • I enjoy explaining to engineers what customers actually want and need out of the products, services and systems they use.• I can create accurate, readable, and concise user manuals. Accuracy, brevity and clarity are the overarching goals of my technical communication.• I’m good at finding what will make a product easier to use.• I’m even better at correcting overlooked safety issues.• I am creative to quickly get credible answers.Here are just a few examples of what I’ve done. • I’ve created user manuals for hundreds of aircraft and millions of dishwashers. • I’ve written successful patent applications for the military and for consumer products.• I’ve created innumerable surveys and moderated as many focus groups and interviews.• I taught grade school children the principles of jet propulsion and flight.I like win-win solutions.
