Data Scientist, Computational Biology
- I designed and led the development of the AgBiome AWS Genomics Data Platform. The AgBiome genomics platform fully automates all genomics workflows (for 80,000+ microbial genomes and counting!) while caching output for rapid analyses. The platform leverages scalable, serverless, and cost-effective technology on AWS.- I developed the cloud-based infrastructure and data scientist developer tooling to write and deploy data-driven monitoring and real-time analysis Plotly Dash (Python) dashboards on AWS Fargate.- I started, developed, deployed on AWS S3, and contributed frequently to an internal company data science blog to communicate data narratives and compelling results. - I developed AgBiome's internal genome comparison API—a REST API driven by AWS Lambda and API Gateway for rapid MinHash based genome searches, pairwise comparison, and clustering by similarity.- First author on AgBiome's first peer-reviewed scientific publication. The Phytobiomes Journal awarded our manuscript with the "Editor's Pick" distinction. https://doi.org/10.1094/PBIOMES-07-19-0038-R
Postdoctoral Researcher And Research Associate
I designed and applied a microbiome analysis pipeline for DNA-SIP-based microbial ecology studies of agricultural soils and biological soil crusts. As first author, I published several manuscripts in refereed journals and contributed as a co-author to many additional scientific publications in subjects ranging from the soil microbiome response to biochar to the genomes of sea star viruses.
Teaching Fellow Microbial Diversity Course
I taught molecular biology laboratory techniques, served as Linux system administrator of course computers, and taught data analysis best practices in microbiome science focusing on the QIIME and Mothur toolkits. (I was also lucky enough to publish a paper with one of our students!)
Suli Internship
Undergraduate laboratory internship learning molecular biology techniques, microscopy, anaerobic culturing, and gas chromatography.
