My responsibilities evolved throughout my tenure, and shifted over the course of the year as our office recruited, reviewed, and yielded bright students from all over the world. The following categories represent my primary areas of focus. CommunicationsI helped coordinate and carry out a redesign of the Admissions website. This involved adopting a new hosting platform (Wordpress), and eventually serving as the Primary Site Maintainer for all Admissions webpages.I coordinated the creation and implementation of a virtual campus tour. Once launched, the tour ranked in the 77th percentile for engagement among a categorically similar group of schools using the same tour hosting platform. SupervisionBetween the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years I recruited, hired, trained, and supervised 15 Carleton students as they interviewed, and led information sessions for hundreds of prospective students. Transfer recruitment and committeeI led the transfer committee reading and selection process, assigning and coordinating responsibilities to colleagues for the successful review of over 200 applications. This entailed creating a budget model for the allocation of financial aid funding. Traditional admissions dutiesI carried out traditional admissions tasks including: Application review: I reviewed and made recommendations on 600+ applicants each admissions cycle.Committee: I participated in large (12-person) and small (3-person) committees to make admissions decisions on over 1,500 applications each admissions cycle.Recruitment: I led information sessions and made 23 separate trips recruiting students from 16 different states. I worked with bright, motivated students from under-represented, first-generation, low-income backgrounds. The goal of the program is for students to matriculate to and succeed at highly-selective, primarily liberal arts colleges. To make this happen students must develop and nurture deep intellectual curiosity. Supporting and inspiring this development was my primary role — and what I loved most about working in education. It meant I got to hear students remark, “You’re making me think!” while… Show more I worked with bright, motivated students from under-represented, first-generation, low-income backgrounds. The goal of the program is for students to matriculate to and succeed at highly-selective, primarily liberal arts colleges. To make this happen students must develop and nurture deep intellectual curiosity. Supporting and inspiring this development was my primary role — and what I loved most about working in education. It meant I got to hear students remark, “You’re making me think!” while helping them integrate literary ideas and concepts into their ever-expanding intellect.Working in this realm felt especially resonant with the academic and personal interests I developed in college. From a field research project into education equity relative to early childhood learning opportunities in Minnesota, to a cumulative thesis examining the dissonance between theories of justice and education inequity in America, I found myself repeatedly returning to this idea and it continues to be a lens that shapes my worldview. I collaborated with the course instructor to support an international relations course for high school students. The Center for Talent Development is designed for high-achieving students looking for a challenging and advanced learning environment. My role included leading several class discussions, grading student work, and facilitating evening study sessions. The chance to engage with students on an intellectual level was deeply fulfilling and helped further my interest in education.

I tackled a host of tasks, including making phone calls to constituents in support of political events, researching and vetting political candidates for endorsement, and creating webpages for online activism. My most substantive work was around voter identification laws. This involved participating in and reporting on conference calls to coordinate political strategy with other parties, as well as writing op-eds on the issue for local newspapers.
