DrugBank began in 2006 as an academic research project in Dr. David Wishart’s Lab at the University of Alberta. Since then, DrugBank has rapidly grown in scope and popularity, and seeing the potential of DrugBank, myself and Michael Wilson commercialized the the project in 2015. Since 2015, the company has seen great success, growing to become the world’s largest online database of drug and drug target information, used by researchers and customers in the drug development and precision medicine space.We recognized that high-quality data is the first step for training Machine-Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, but obtaining the information is difficult as most knowledge about drugs exists within scientific publications in an unstructured text format. DrugBank solves this problem by providing a robust, structured, machine-readable knowledge base for precision and personalized medicine, clinical software, and drug development, helping to make our customers’ models more powerful.

Built and managed various projects such as the Human Metabolome Project (hmdb.ca) and DrugBank (drugbank.ca). Published, lectured, and managed staff and resources.
