Improved existing negotiation training materials (presentations, workbooks, handouts, complex simulations) by gathering and incorporating feedback from diverse stakeholders.

Wide-ranging contributions included direct service (community mediation, facilitation, and training), improving operations, and planning and execution of 500-person annual fundraising gala. Interacted effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, elected officials, trainees of all ages (youth to older adults). Participated in Technology Advisory Group to help organization evaluate, choose, and transition to an integrated CRM database solution to manage volunteers, volunteer hours, mediation cases, and donors / constituents. Served as an impartial co-mediator in 17 disputes (primarily parenting-plan, workplace, and small business). Certified April 2011. Presented training modules on aspects of non-violent conflict resolution and mediation (communication, needs, interests, negotiation and durable agreements) to diverse audiences of 10 - 60 participants at quarterly Professional Mediation Trainings and custom trainings.

Provided computer assistance, resume advice and community referrals to 300+ adults per day in a busy OneStop workforce development center. Built rapport and worked effectively with diverse groups, including returned veterans, people experiencing long-term unemployment, homelessness, people formerly incarcerated, and people with limited English proficiency.Most of the lab and class participants were older adults (50+ years old) or dislocated workers who were gaining computer skills for the first time so they could get new jobs and use computers at work. Many of them came to class with feelings of fear, anxiety, and doubt about their skills and about the state of the changed economy. In teaching, I worked to normalize their needs and feelings, and created an environment safe to ask questions, make and learn from mistakes, and learn through visuals, games, and guided practice. As a result, both weekly classes became very popular, and were often full.

Leading non-profit in national harm reduction network needed major improvements to its constituent database. Used observation, user interviews and check-ins to inform the redesign process. Upon completion, I wrote an illustrated user guide and trained core office staff. My redesign improved NASEN's ability to communicate with its member organizations, as well as to collect, analyze and share data for its annual Beth Israel Medical Center survey. These functions are essential to its mission to provide technical assistance to syringe exchange programs (SEPs) and conduct annual research on syringe exchange effectiveness.
