President, Sutherland Partnership, Inc., Chairman, Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, Co-Author of Bedu: Bedouin Boy, Poet King: A Profoundly Simple Journey and The General's Spy: A Revolutionary Adventure in Leadership providing profound insights on leadership and living with purpose. Following my three decades of Active Federal Service in the U.S. Army, I am consulting with many corporations, nonprofits and government entities on the topics of leadership, organizational culture and veterans affairs. I am also a nationally recognized public speaker. As a speaker I share my inspirational war stories and profiles of courage while applying those stories tailored to the needs of each audience. My team and I at Sutherland Partnership have developed tools to quantify what is happening inside client organizations regarding organizational culture, and help identify new ways to develop leaders and drive employee performance. I believe, from my experiences on the battlefield, that building a successful culture by informed leaders has become one of the most significant sources of competitive advantage and brand differentiation in business today.I am also the Chairman of Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services. We partner with business and industry, service providers, and training institutions to develop and operate direct service programs for veterans and their families. Our goal is not to create new programs. Rather, the goal is to enable the integration of military and veteran services into existing programs to increase impact. As a Center, we provide and coordinate technical assistance/training, resource sharing, and strong leadership to our partners, who, with our ongoing support, operate direct service programs.

The General'S Spy: A Revolutionary Adventure In Leadership Nov 2023 - Present
A deep look into the behaviors and habits of a formidable, dynamic leader, The General's Spy transports readers to the birth of the United States of America. Joining Samuel on his journey - both physical and psychological - as he evolves from a humble family man to a widely respected patriot and ultimately entrepreneur, it becomes clear that true leaders possess and demonstrate certain behaviors. From our nation's days as individual colonies to today's national and even international community, history has seen the rise, as well as the fall, of many leaders and so-called leaders. What we take from The General's Spy is a meaningful lesson in leadership - what it takes to lead people and entire organizations, and perhaps more importantly, to inspire ordinary individuals to achieve greatness.
