Thesis title - An ultrasonically assisted Sagittal Saw for large bone surgeriesUltrasonic bone cutting is currently mostly limited to small bones. My research aims to widen the applicability of ultrasonic surgical tools, particularly aiming at procedures involving deep cuts in large bones. My research takes a distinctive approach by investigating the superimposition of ultrasonic vibrations on a low frequency motion. In this way, the research aligns to some extent with work in the manufacturing communities that has demonstrated that considerable benefits of reduced cutting forces and reduced friction can be achieved by superimposing ultrasonic vibrations on a reciprocating or rotational cutting motion.

I undertook a research masters at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory. This consisted of master’s level engineering modules, including Control Engineering, Electromechanical Integration, Research Methods and Critical Analysis. The majority of the programme was a large dissertation of novel research that looked at developing an exoskeleton to help with the rehabilitation of stroke patients, notably with degrees of freedom within the palm.

Working as a member of the Satellite engineering team, my responsibilities include support of Satellite pre-sales, bid creation, all design processes, project implementation and new technology introduction. My roles include;o Creation and designs of bids for new business. Satellite Link budget design including backhaul equipment, satellite and coding solution for optimum link design and costing for customer solutions covering international license and shipping requirements.o Project management of major government customer contracts covering designs, installations and logistics of multiple international sites.o Laboratory testing of new technology for later introduction into the live network. Full specification testing of satellite modems, UPS systems and complete flyaway solutions.

After graduating University, I secured a place on the Cable and Wireless Engineering graduate scheme, which consisted of 4, 6 month placements throughout different areas of the business. My placements included;o New Technology Introduction – Type approval testing of Transmission kit within a lab environment for eventual use within the live network. Also supported projects looking at removing legacy technology from the network.o FMC – Type Approval testing of Hardware and software for use in the C&WW Network. Site surveys for customer site deployment of Picocells and streamlining of business processes using Microsoft based Macros.o International Network Planning – International placement where I was based in our Singapore office for 6 months. Worked on the development of the network in South East Asia with Kit deployments in various sites. I also undertook a short secondment within the Pre Sales support team.o Customer Solutions Delivery –Programme and Project management for post sales solutions delivery. Working directly with a large CWW customer to support role out of C&WW services to various sites.

Full CAD model construction using ProEngineer, technical drawing creation and prototype testing and development.o Thermal testing of various products and prototypes for Certification approval and product development.o Design of PCB faraday cage, design and implementation of mechanical handling tool.
