I was awarded a place on the Huawei Technologies “Seeds of the Future” programme where I will be spending one month in Beijing and Shenzhen, China. As part of the programme I will receive language and cultural training whilst also touring multiple technology company campuses. This programme will improve my team working skills, cultural understanding and general understanding of many aspects of the tech industry.

Coimbatore Area, India

I was tasked in testing the validity of a construction block prototype made out of recycled LDPE and sand. Five different tests such as compression, tensile and thermal tests, were carried out in line with the Indian Standard and a paper was compiled on our findings. I was also part of a field study on rural sanitation in a north eastern Indian community where I stayed in the village for two weeks and interacted with the locals whilst conducting a survey and research. My research was a key part in a paper submitted to the IEEE International Conference on Innovating Technology for Humanity, 2018.

Uganda

HYT is a sustainable construction charity that aims to provide sustainable schools buildings in rural Ugandan communities. HYT was awarded the Ashden Global Award for Sustainable Development in 2017. I was in charge of designing and overseeing the construction of construction of classroom blocks, lavatories and water tanks in rural Ugandan communities. I was also managing a project that introduced iPads into a school in order to improve the teaching of maths to primary school children in rural communities. I compiled a report on how the project went and areas that could be improved before the project was implemented into more schools. During the time I worked here, my leadership skills and initiative improved drastically.
