After retiring as Chief of the Fairbanks Police Department, I transitioned to the private sector where I spent 11 years serving as the Risk Managment and Security Supervisor for Pogo Mine, the largest underground gold mine in Interior Alaska. My tenure with Pogo occurred under the successive ownership of three international mining companies- Teck, (Canadian) Sumitomo Metal Mining, (Japanese) and Northern Star Resources. (Australian)Retiring from Pogo in early 2020, I started my own risk consultancy, specializing in the formulation of emergency action plans (EAP's) and crisis management manuals for businesses and other organizations, with an emphasis on remote, "off-the-grid" operations where standard, municipal-response resources may be unavailable.Authoring "An Alaska Flyfisher's Odyssey: Seeking a Life of Drag-Free Drift in the Land of the Midnight Sun" in 2021, I now use the unique framework of the "flyfisher's perspective” to structure corporate training sessions and keynote presentations, addressing leadership, team-building, safety, risk management, and professional/personal growth.
