Daniel studied violin and conducting at the Royal College of Music for 5 years where he was also President of the Students’ Association in his final year. On leaving the RCM he joined the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and in 1986 he joined the BBC Symphony Orchestra as No.3 Second Violin, a position he held until September 2023 when he completed his 37th Prom season at the Royal Albert Hall. In addition to his full-time orchestral role, Daniel has held several voluntary positions, elected by his colleagues. These included Chairman of the Orchestra’s Players’ Committee, which he held for 3 years until he became the Musicians Union Steward in 1998. From 2011-2021 he was also Chair of the MU/BBC Orchestras Committee and Chair of the Orchestral Section of the Musicians Union. During these years he was the link between the players and the orchestral management, helping to negotiate contract changes, pay rises and pay cuts!In 2023 Daniel became a trustee of the Hounslow Music service and a Governor of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain.Daniel was accredited as a mediator for civil disputes by CEDR in 2004 and as a mediator for workplace disputes by Consensio in 2014.In his spare time Daniel enjoys travelling, cooking and eating.
