About Daniel Rock
As an education consultant with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), I have worked with hundreds of teachers, leaders, and schools across the country on improving learning outcomes for students at all levels. With thousands of hours of in-school coaching experience and training from leading national organizations such as Literacy Design Collaborative and Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, I have helped both rural and urban schools at the secondary level to improve literacy success; additionally, I have worked extensively with school leadership in building and maintaining learning teams using continuous improvement processes.Furthermore, as SREB I have coordinated the design and implementation of training for hundreds of teachers across the Southern region. Participants walk away from these workshops understanding that when they create engaging and challenging assignments, more students will participate in learning complex content. Our team of trainers works with coaches and teacher-leaders to build their capacity and skills, so they can continue to deepen and spread effective literacy tools and instruction for years to come.In 2011, I became a curriculum specialist with the Georgia Department of Education (DOE). Traveling across the state, I conducted workshops for both English/Language Arts and content teachers on how to embed state literacy standards into science, social studies, and Career/Technical courses. Additionally, I facilitated the development of assessment questions used in Georgia for school accountability. Originally from Miami, Florida, I have taught in grades 9-12 in both Miami and Atlanta, Georgia. In 2007, I transitioned from the classroom to become an instructional coach in five Title One schools in the DeKalb County Schools System. In this position, I led groups of teachers through the coaching cycle. This included analyzing data, determining the strengths and weaknesses of students, and designing professional development that helped teachers address targeted gaps. I also worked with professional learning communities to form data teams that created common formative assessments to monitor learning over time.
Listed skills include Staff Development, Research, Educational Leadership, Microsoft Office, and 18 others.
