I joined Grant Thornton Restructuring practice as a partner in May 2003 and over the last 19 years, my senior colleagues and I have built a market-leading restructuring and debt advisory practice with the strength and depth of resource to provide experienced hands-on advice to solve the most complex restructuring situations in the market. This includes innovative use of Schemes of Arrangement and Restructuring Plans (Part 26 and 26A CA 2006) producing a number of industry firsts including the use of cram-down to inject Super-Senior facilities and the exclusion of out of the money creditors s.901c(4).A key focus includes special situations lending and restructuring, involving the raising of capital and independent business reviews in challenging situations. As part of this, I have worked with a range of creditors including bank lenders, non-bank lenders, hedge funds, insurers and providers of guarantee and surety instruments. Core skills include the Management of key stakeholders through the appropriate use of a common information platforms, earnest appraisal, trust and transparency.With over 30 years’ experience in all, I have led in excess of 50 special situations business reviews over the past five years, which included identifying and developing financial restructuring opportunities, supported by a combination of capital raising, disposal of non-core business and strategic operational change, providing constructive, practical and preventative solutions for businesses in difficulty, taking board advisory and observer roles to assist negotiations, improve governance around directors duties and inter-group issues and use of pre-planned insolvency procedures and long-term asset management mandates. I believe in assessing business valuation and its drivers, then mapping key stakeholders’ understanding of their exposures, motivations and interests which are fundamental to achieving a successful financial restructuring.I am head of Grant Thornton's award winning (Laing & Buisson) private sector healthcare advisory team. I have been involved in a significant number of high profile assignments, including, Southern Cross Plc and Four Seasons Healthcare Group Plc. I was nominated in the HealthInvestor Power 50 Awards, recognising the most influential leaders for the healthcare industry.
