I wear a few hats in glaciology research and the aerospace sector. At Kea Aerospace we are developing a high-altitude solar-powered aircraft for earth observation with a vast array of applications to advance knowledge of the Earth's land, oceans, and atmosphere. My current research work in glaciology focuses on Antarctic sea ice thickness investigation with satellite and airborne sensors. I have completed 8 campaigns to the Antarctic for science and science program support. Much of my recent work has developed crevasse avoidance techniques for heavy vehicle traverses across the Ross Ice Shelf for the New Zealand Antarctic Program; that work involved finding a new 1,000 km route to the West Antarctic using novel satellite techniques.In the past, I have passionately worked to spread awareness about the severity of the climate crisis. In 2015 I led a campaign called Pole to Paris to draw attention to the COP21 climate conference, hosted by the French capital. I cycled from New Zealand to Paris, while my colleague Erlend ran from the Arctic Circle to Paris. En route across 25 different countries, we both gave talks about the threat of climate change and attempted to galvanize media attention ahead of the conference via our journeys. We estimate the 8-month project directly reached over one million people via conventional and social media. We built meaningful partnerships with NGOs and private companies including the United Nations Development Program, WWF, WMO, myclimate, Helly Hansen, Clifbar & Macpac.I conceptualized, produced, and co-directed two documentaries on climate change, Thirty Million in Bangladesh and Blue Gold in Mongolia. I co-conceived the idea for, and co-launched, Trump Forest: a global campaign to plant trees to offset Donald Trump's climate ignorance. The campaign gained global attention and led to almost 1,500,000 trees being planted around the world.I worked in fashion with Offcut to showcase the huge quantities of waste in the fashion industry and provide more sustainable alternatives.I'm a very keen paraglider and love to spend time in the mountains flying, climbing or hiking.
