Participated in 600 hour internship to understand and implement the theories related to child development, gain knowledge of assessment, intervention and documentation across the age spectrum of hospitalized children, and experience working independently and as a team member to meet psychosocial needs of children and adolescents. Practiced assessment skills and interacted with hospitalized, pediatric patients, from birth to 18 years of age, during therapeutic play and preparation opportunities throughout the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Medical Ambulatory Unit (PDAY), Children's Emergency Department (CED), pediatric surgical unit, and general pediatric departments. Observed child life specialist's daily prioritization from the patient care role to administrative duties as well as how they provided developmentally appropriate support, before, and throughout procedures. Practiced the subjective documentation of observed interactions with child life specialists and reflected on best practice and how the child life intervention provided could have been improved.
