I cover courts in the Detroit metro area and eastern Michigan for Law360. I spent about six years in journalism in South Dakota, where I developed strong communication and relationship development skills. I primarily covered criminal and civil legal issues and any legislation that impacted the justice system. I wrote hard news, breaking news, feature stories and investigative pieces for South Dakota's largest newspaper. I produced long-form hard news stories and radio edits for the state's first non-profit online-only journalism organization. I covered issues such as labor trafficking in South Dakota, mental health needs in our justice system, mistreatment of inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic and unique court issues. I also was a media witness to an execution in 2018 and have contributed to national projects for USA Today. For a period, I switched gears to nonprofit work. I recruited and coordinated volunteers and activities for South Dakota's largest homeless shelter, the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. That position required networking and relationship building skills. As part of my role, I also took over the organization's social media channels and some outreach tasks. In 2021, I helped lead the Giving Tuesday campaign, during which we doubled our goal of $5,000.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota Area
As a contributor to Argus Leader Media's Argus911, I cover breaking news and anything crime related. My day-to-day consists of anything from covering a breaking news situation, such as a house fire or shooting, to crime trend stories. I work the later shift, 1 to 10 p.m., when a lot of sources aren't in the office, so I've had to learn to be clever and persistent in finding sources in the evening hours. We have a pretty small staff, so I also help out when needed with any general assignments.
Des Moines, Iowa Area
I have the opportunity to be the news intern for The Des Moines Register this summer, working the breaking news/ night shift and other general assignments. I'm looking forward to this experience to help me learn how to become a better reporter, storyteller, writer, multimedia guru and professional.
Ames, Iowa
As one of the news editors for the Iowa State Daily, I was in charge of about 15 news reporters. I made sure they were following their beats and getting their stories in on time. I was also a resource for any help or advice they needed, newspaper related and beyond.
I covered Faculty Senate and Board of Regents from my freshman to junior years at Iowa State. The experience taught me how to interact with people in positions of authority and source development.
Sioux Falls, Sd
I covered general assignments, feature stories and breaking news - including floods, drownings, accidents, etc. - as a news intern for the Argus Leader. I had a wonderful experience and got the chance to work with and learn from great people, as well.
As an unpaid intern with Network Against Human Trafficking, an Iowa based human trafficking awareness organization, I created the network's Facebook and Twitter pages and updated the pages regularly to raise awareness on the issue.
