Supporting teams and projects throughout the inquiry process - from identifying areas of inquiry all the way to identifying possible solutions and action steps. Helping teams know more to improve by collecting, visualizing, and analyzing data; conducting research that better helps define a problem or opportunity; identifying potential solutions or opportunities for improvement; connecting MMSD staff to experts in the field; and supporting and training MMSD staff in research and innovation.

Administrator at an independent school for children ages 5-14. Responsibilities included staff professional development, school programming and curriculum, student learning, assessment, event coordination, family engagement, and advancing responsive and progressive education practices within the school. Guided the staff through the COVID-19 pandemic and a transition to distance learning. Navigated a return to in-person learning as a member of the school’s COVID Task Force. Co-created a plan for school transformation as an anti-racist, multicultural institution.

Designed fun, hands-on and culturally relevant tech innovation experiences for Code Next. Code Next provides black and Latinx students with academic opportunities in computer science, engineering and leadership and builds social capital within the community. Developed a playbook outlining the philosophy, approach, programs, curriculum and outcomes for Code Next. Managed the development of a project based curriculum focused on coding, physical computing and leadership. Coached instructors around facilitating an inclusive, creative maker focused environment. Transitioned to be a “Training and Learning Development Manager.” Responsibilities included developing learning tools and materials for current instructors, training new instructors and staff members for the launch of a new extension site, and managing the development of program materials and curriculum for an online learning and training platform.

Collaborated with the lead author to create a college level pre-calculus textbook. Provided resources (videos, images, problems, questions, applications) and reviewed concepts related to pre-calculus topics. Part-time independent contractor position.

Analyzed, supported and co-created a vision for the growth of teacher networks. Created and managed content for the organization’s website, using creative software like Adobe InDesign and coordinating projects through Wunderlist. Helped to boost the reach of YouCubed through social media (Google+, Facebook, Twitter). Curated a common core aligned database of high quality math tasks. Maintained a pulse on current research in math education, growth mindset, neuroscience and networks.

Taught algebra, geometry and pre-calculus to a heterogeneous student population. Developed project based curriculum collaboratively with teachers at Summit Public Schools. Engaged in ongoing professional development around various topics including: self-directed learning, integrating chromebooks into the classroom, teaching 21st century skills, creating performance assessments for the common core standards, design thinking, differentiation, literacy, numeracy, online educational platforms (Khan Academy, Reading Plus, Curriculet and the Summit Learning Platform). Served as a mentor for 18 students, monitoring their academic progress throughout their four years of high school as well as their adolescent development, counseling them on college readiness and working closely with their families.

(Repeated role April 2015 - August 2015) Supervised and developed SMASH curriculum (science, math, computer science, engineering and design, SAT prep). Managed hiring of instructional staff in collaboration with the site director. Provided training and professional development for instructors in social justice and critical pedagogy. Conducted classroom observations and performance evaluations to develop and review goals, discuss issues, recognize contributions, provide and solicit feedback. Communicated regularly with site team (site director, residential director, program assistant) as well as the lead instructor from other sites and the director of curriculum and instruction for Level Playing Field Institute. Taught a college success course (topics included: best fit colleges, financial aid, personal statements, application process). Organized field trips to Yahoo and Google.

Served as a mentor to a student teacher throughout the academic year. Supported student teacher in translating educational theory and research into best teaching practices. Modeled, coached, collaborated with and assessed student teacher on: engaging and supporting all students in learning, creating and maintaining effective learning environments, understanding and organizing subject matter, planning instruction and designing learning experiences for all students, assessing for student learning, developing as a professional.

Worked collaboratively with other pre-calculus instructors to develop a summer scope and sequence for pre-calculus. Developed a series of math/science based projects collaboratively with the chemistry instructor. Taught two sections of pre-calculus and one section of projects in STEM. Participated in professional development and implemented lessons that emphasized excellence in STEM fields, critical pedagogy, social justice, collaboration, and leadership.

Developed curriculum to accommodate for English Language Learners levels 1 – 4. Team taught a mixed ESL and mainstream Geometry class. Taught self contained ESL Pre-Algebra and ESL Algebra. Facilitated an ESL Math/Physics tutorial; students ranged from algebra to pre-calculus. Taught mainstream Geometry and Algebra II classes with large clusters of ESL students. Coached the girls gymnastics team and directed 2 plays (co-directed one). Served as the teacher adviser for the National Honor Society. Attended AVID professional development and was part of the AVID school site team. Certified Critical Friends coach.
