Benthic Taxonomy ServicesOur in house lab provides taxonomic services for benthic invertebrate samples to our clients, including land developers, industry, government agencies as well as private individuals. Our taxonomists are certified with NABS Society of Freshwater Science and have correctly identified over 150,000 bugs. Regular quality control audits following CABIN protocals ensure the accuracy of the identification. We also provide QC/QA for other taxonomist and clients following CABIN protocols Aquatic Biomonitoring Services “Every bug tells a story”Aquatic biomonitoring measures changes in biological communities (for example, fish, benthic invertebrates, and algae) in order to assess the health of aquatic ecosystems. Biomonitoring is complementary to traditional physical and chemical monitoring. Biological monitoring can measure impacts of cumulative stressors including impacts from chemical interactions, contaminant pulses, or unknown contaminants that are difficult to capture with routine chemical sampling. Other stressors that may be captured by biological monitoring include the presence of exotic species, habitat degradation in the water body or surrounding land, climate change, and fluctuations in water quantity. We have a very experienced field crew that is certified with OBBN for gathering aquatic invertebrates and performing habitat assessments following the OBBN, CABIN and BioMAP protocols. Data analysis and report writing can be tailored to meet your study requirements. Electrofishing ServicesOur field technician is a certified class 2 backpack electrofisher with over 1500 hours of experience electrofishing and has extensive fish identification skills. We have performed field work for various Conservation Authority's, Consulting firms as well as drain classifications for the DFO.We can also safely remove all fish and reptiles from the desired work area and relocate either further upstream or downstream from the site.
