He also headed up Rand's first entry into commercial fleet telematics.

Dave directed Cobra’s early entries into the vehicle navigation market and ongoing market leadership in the radar business, including development of the first integrated Radar & Safety Camera warning device.

Dave lead teams that were responsible for the development of numerous innovative consumer mapping, GPS navigation, and wireless cell phone navigation products. These included the market-leading TripMaker/StreetFinder PC Software family, the first sub-$100 laptop GPS product and the first GPS clip-on for PDA’s in the 1990’s. His group’s products won over 50 industry awards, including Best of Comdex, Best of the Consumer Electronics Show, and the Software Industry Association “Codie” for Best Travel Software or Web Service.Dave also initiated and led Rand's early forays into cell phone navigation with Sprint and in-vehicle PDA navigation integration with Delphi and others.

As CTO of startup firm Wayfinder, Dave lead development of wireless navigation solutions for cell phones in the early 90’s, predating smartphones and the web explosion.

Dave was part of the team which helped take NAVTEQ from a Silicon Valley startup to the market-leading in-vehicle navigation database company now known as HERE. Dave led the efforts to create the software QA tools necessary to validate navigation map databases for safe use in vehicles.
