I believe in being an active listener. Staff at all levels, board, and community members are frequently the best to suggest solutions. A strong network of colleagues is also valuable as many if not most issues are not entirely unique at one institution.Identifying key issues, barriers to progress or sustainability, and then enlisting active participation by team members is key.Forty years of professional work as a librarian and public library director, building teams, building and remodeling facilities, managing a multimillion dollar budget and never forgetting we were there to serve the public all while enjoying almost every minute made my career brief and I may be able to offer support to others.
