The project contained two key objectives, create a batch processing analysis tool for pre-existing software and create a database of previous measurements taken:• Extensive object-oriented programming in Python, to build upon pre-written software• Used GitHub to version control Python scripts and information files • Created a full process from taking data from users of the facility via a form, to process this and convert it to an XML file, the required input format. Sorted the data supplied by the user to produce relevant plots and upload all the required information to the existing database

The Earth Observation Science Group was deploying a ground-based spectrometer to the Ugandan wetlands to monitor methane emissions. My work on this project was to:• Set up and record measurements from Bruker EM27/SUN infrared spectrometer• Used PROFFIT software to analyse the raw data obtained and produce results showing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This involved coding in Python to interpret the data • PowerPoint presentation and final report on findings• Attended National Earth Observation Conference in Birmingham where I gave a 2 minute presentation on my project and displayed a research poster on my findings

Undertook research work looking at possible galaxies close to DLA (Damped Lyman Alpha) systems that could be interacting with them. This involved:• Data analysis on the images and spectrums taken by the VLT (Very Large Telescope). • Wrote stacking code in Python. The data from the VLT formed 3D cubes so the code was used to take a slice of the data from each image, and stack these on top of each other to improve the signal to noise ratio• Presented my findings at weekly meetings to researchers in the Physics department • Published a research paper on which I have been named as Co-Author (10.1093/mnras/stz1501)
