David Morgan’s love of playing music started at age five when he began to learn how to play the piano, and the piano has been at the center of his musical ventures ever since. He grew up in California, where he says everyone had musical gear in their garages, and by age 11 he was already playing in his first band. He played all styles of music – pop, rock, blues, progressive rock, metal. What captivated him was the fun of playing live with other musicians, and his involvement with bands and love of performing has continued ever since.He began his university studies at Cal State Northridge in LA but found it was too much traditional classical music for his taste, so he ultimately transferred to the University of New Orleans where he studied jazz for three years with Ellis Marsalis (father of Wynton and Branford) and jazz legend Harold Battiste. What better place than New Orleans to study jazz during the day and perform during the evenings? Morgan eventually headed to New York where he pursued his music, composing and performing jazz, blues, rock and funk at clubs like The Blue Note. In addition to performing, David is an accomplished composer and music producer. He spent a lot of time traveling the world with well know singer Neshama Carlebach, writing music with her, producing her albums and serving as the musical director of her band. He has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Peter Himmelman, Jane Lynch, Kate Flannery Devil Doll, and hundreds and hundreds of world class musicians that no one has ever heard of. In 2000, a good friend who was a producer at CBS Sports asked David to contribute a few songs to help score a sports special and this turned into an amazing 10 year run. His music was featured on regular season games as well as many CBS golf, tennis and football documentary specials. His music has also been heard extensively on A&E, Discovery, MTV, The Weather Channel and Lifetime, to name a few. Personal, custom songwriting is also another supreme passion. His very first custom song was performed live at his father-in-laws 65th birthday party. When the song was over, the man who had everything he ever wanted in life, with a tear in his eye, said this was the best give he had ever received. Since then David has written and recorded thousands of sentimental and witty custom songs for folks all over the world.
