About David Roth

I've written many different things, from sports trading cards to print advertising material to magazine features, for a host of different online and print venues. Mostly, though, I focus my work on The Classical, a sports-and-other-things website funded through Kickstarter and which I started with some other writer/editor types in late 2011. In June of 2013 I started as a staff writer at SB Nation, writing about sports and not-sports, but mostly about sports. For several years, I made my living freelancing, writing about sports and culture and the intersection of the two, for venues such as New York Magazine, Vice, GQ, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, The Awl, Playboy, Sports On Earth, The New Republic and Slate.I can do other things, too -- type really fast, consistently knock down the 15-foot jumpshot, mix drinks and cook Italian food (although not at the same time) -- but writing is what I do best, and certainly what I do most. I've made a living doing writing (and only writing) for the last few years, and would like to continue doing it. At the moment, I'm very interested in working towards creating high-quality journalism with real literary value, either as a writer or an editor, that respects and embraces the new stylistic and technological possibilities made possible by the web.Specialties: Writing things, using words.
