The Workout Officer maintains a portfolio of the Bank's classified assets which have adverse risk ratings and risk criterion with the goal of implementing the best strategies to decrease the total amount of loan outstandings. These strategies may include restructuring the current debt to more align with the customer's operating performance, implementing management or consulting firms to rectify managerial constraints that may be hindering the business, and/or the selling of collateral assets to repay some or all of the loan outstandings. The role has allowed David to utilize his skills in financial analysis and financial modeling while developing strong negotiating skills. As the risk criterion of these clients is higher than normal, with clients often suffering from adverse financial circumstances, negotiating skills are critical. David's portfolio is National with clients in diverse regions such as the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southwest areas of the United States. This has allowed David to build an understanding of the business culture and economic factors across different regions of the country. As the portfolio is so diverse with the number of accounts ranging from 10-20 separate accounts, the position also requires a strong degree of organization and management. Though previous positions also required this of David, the current one has allowed him to build and expand those skills.

The Credit Professional role blends the traditional Credit Analyst and Portfolio manager roles in commercial banking. This role was a significant increase in skills and resposibilities compared to the previous role as a Credit Analyst III at TD Bank.The Credit Professional maintains a portfolio continually examining and reviewing bank clients for risk and structure. New financing requests and renewal of existing debt requests are all processed by the Credit Professional. The role is dedicated to loans and relationship sizes from $1.0 million to $10.0 million. The role requires frequent customer interaction and allowed for David to develop significant customer interaction skills. These interpersonal skills continue to be an asset with David being able to leverage it to obtain a more customer focused portfolio. The role also requires maintenance or poorly rated commercial borrowers. This involves frequent recommendations to changes in the structure of the lending relationship. This is a significant addition to the typical role of a Credit Analyst.

David transitioned to a junior Credit Analyst position at TD Bank in August 2004. At the time the Bank was engaged in a process mapping project and management believed that David's operations background could be benefitial to the process. Leveraging these technical skills the credit process was processed mapped. The process map was used to analyze and improve cycle time.Over the course of 6 years David worked on a variety of loan types and structures, gaining significant experience with Asset Based Lending, Commercial Lending, and Hypothecation loans. David also was promoted several times, becoming a senior credit analyst in 2010. In addition to the senior analyst role, in 2010 due to turnover and organizational changes, David was tasked with managing the credit department backlog and mentoring several junior analysts. David also leveraged his technical skills in Excel, gained from his time in Operations at GE, to build several models to measure debt service coverage, stress test projections, monitor formula based loans, and support ad hoc needs.General responsibitilies of the Credit Analyst role are:Communicates with client and Credit Officer regarding covenant exceptions.Communicates with credit team and relationship manager regarding covenant exceptions.Conducts industry and market analysis to identify issues; conducts third party verification via background, credit and due diligence.Continuously monitors client financials/information to ensure compliance with loan policies.Monitors and assesses client financials, collateral, loan covenants and risk ratingsPerforms credit analysis and underwriting on all new deals, renewals, maturities and modifications and verifies compliance with credit policy.
