Born in Recife, Brazil, and a resident of the Dominican Republic since 1955, David Luther is the founder and Executive Director of the Instituto Dominicano de Desarrollo Integral, Inc. –IDDI- (1984 to the present). Mr. Luther sits on the Boards of 14 non-profit organizations in the Dom. Rep., the US and Haiti, having been co-founder and President of a number of them. He is also the co-founder of 12 businesses in the DR with activities in construction, bio-fuels, crafts, agricultural products, consulting and financial services and has been named to various Presidential Commissions, represents civil society on several government commissions, has been an advisor to numerous international organizations and for a number of years was a newspaper columnist.IDDI is one of the foremost non-profits in the Dominican Republic with a full-time personnel of 225 persons and 14 offices throughout the country. The organization has / is supporting 1,280,000 people both in the DR as well as in Haiti. Recently IDDI became involved in supporting the craft sector in Cuba. IDDI works in health, education, construction, micro-credit, environment, renewable energy and crafts projects and is a pioneer in collaborating with the Dominican private sector in large-scale development efforts.
