As a part of developing our K-5 STEM program, I am in charge of coordinating the curriculum efforts of the district, leads and staff to ensure we are experts in the fields of STEM. In addition to helping write and manage curriculum, I lead and organize in house PDs for our teachers, offer co-teaching support and serve as part of our resource staff training our students how to utilize those communication and critical thinking skills. I am also in charge of school supplies, technology and resources in regards to STEM.

I moved to Magruder to serve a pilot for training staff to implement STEM in primary classrooms. I was self contained in a second grade classroom, learning how to use inquiry and STEM at the primary level. I also co-taught with colleagues to develop mixed ability groups.

I led my team of 4 while we re-worked the unit plans for science and social studies to make them integrated for the 2013-2014 school year. We created a portfolio system for the social studies that integrated with the science pacing; however, tied in important math and reading skills as well. We were the responsible for training the 5th grade teachers on the new content during district professional development.

I departmentalized as the reading and science teacher. I was a fifth grade grade level lead since 2009. I served on several committees and as a new teacher mentor. I was a cooperating teacher for student teachers in 2011 ad 2013.

I co-wrote Newport News fifth grade science, social studies and math curriculum for the 2012-2013 school year. We re-wrote essential questions, unit calendars, assessments and unit plans. I primarily focused on the unit plans for science and social studies. My primary target was inquiry and hands on lessons with an integrated emphasis.We were the responsible for training the 5th grade teachers on the new content during district professional development.

I worked in tandem with another lead fifth grade teacher to finalize the pacing and integration of the science and math curriculum. Our focus was on authentic learning experiences and inquiry investigation. We re-defined a service learning project and corrected and simplified the portfolio requirements.
