About Dennis Mullen

I am a web developer for Knox County (Tennessee) government, working on the web pages and apps that connect the people of Knox County to their government and services. I use the JavaScript framework Vue, Amazon Web Services (including Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, Elastic Beanstalk, Simple Email Service, etc.) to build apps that interact with SQL and DynamoDB databases. I also help maintain legacy code written in PHP, and develop WordPress sites.I worked previously as a web development specialist on the User Interface (UI) team at iXsystems in Maryville Tennessee. We built the UI for FreeNAS (now TrueNAS), the great open source operating system for Network Attached Storage. I used HTML, CSS, TypeScript and JavaScript and Angular, the TypeScript-based web framework, to help build a beautiful and practical user interface which interacts with the operating system.My long-term experience as a pastor includes teaching, leading teams of staff and volunteers, managing a budget, casting vision, facilities management and information technology work. I love working with people and with technology, and am most pleased when the two of these meet.

    I build web applications that connect the people of Knox County Tennessee to their government and services. I have built (as the sole front-end developer) and currently maintain four in-production web applications using Vue 2 (along with Vuex and Vuetify).For two of these apps, I implemented user authentication and MFA (multi-factor authentication) via AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cognito. The other two apps authenticate users with Microsoft Azure.For one of the apps, I built the REST API and back-end using PHP Laravel. The other apps connect to APIs built by other developers.I also have considerable on-the-job experience in:- Building APIs with AWS API Gateway, Lambda Functions (using Node and Python), and S3 Storage- Building and deploying email templates with AWS SES (Simple Email Service)- Querying and writing to SQL and DynamoDB databases- Setting up AWS CloudFront distributions- Working with AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) and Shield- Using AWS Cloudformation templates- Interacting with AWS Route 53, Elastic Beanstalk, EC2 instances and Security GroupsI help maintain our legacy site which is written in PHP, and I have built a soon-to-be in-production WordPress site.
