About Doug Sullivan

I aspire to be a clear and compelling vision and voice for education and equality.Education is a potentially powerful vehicle to inspire dreams and transport those visions into reality. It also can and should provide the tools to help us connect more strongly with each other as individuals and as part of our greater communities. The switch from insurance to education was a natural one because I realized what moved me most about the insurance field were the training, coaching, and evaluating components. Additionally, I've always seen true customer service as an educational opportunity in both providing knowledge about your organization's products and services; but also learning from the consumers what they thought about them. Lastly, I realized that most of my most memorable relationships and environments - as reflective in my volunteering activities - are woven through the threads of education. As an educator, I can:- help others uncover their passions- inspire others to tap into their courage- assist in establishing and monitoring clear and decisive goals- surface on a personal level the values of positive attitude and hard work- analyze test results and provide concrete suggestions for improvementMy mental and emotional antennas try to focus on fairness and equality in all walks of life.Though we may be different in many aspects, those differences should not be judged categorically. The essence of the dignity of humanity reveals that no one is superior or inferior to another. Everyone should be allowed to express their talents and gifts; and these skills should be recognized, respected, and rewarded. As an advocate for fairness, I favor:- equal access to avenues and opportunities.- healthy diversities of people and ideas.- just interpretations and applications of laws and policies; - and a balanced level of compassion for self and others.

Listed skills include Training, Coaching, Management, Program Management, and 45 others.

Encore Fellow

West Hartford, Ct

Encore!Hartford is an intensive hands-on education program designed to successfully bridge my passions, skills, and work experiences to a career in the nonprofit sector. I was chosen, after an intensive vetting process, to be admitted into this high-caliber program based on my enthusiasm for entering the educational and project management components of the nonprofit sector. As part of this program, I accepted a project to help The Hartford Consortium for Higher Education look at its resources and to apply them most effectively to a new endeavor they recently undertook. This new venture involves supporting college students through their first year at institutions of higher learning and helping them to at least advance into their third semesters. The recommendations not only addressed their needs in the Bridge and Persistence program for first year college students; but also offered suggestions to both enhancing and capturing the values of their other programs.I was also asked to look into the job descripton of the organization's counseling position and the recruiting methods for attracting students into their college preparatory program.

Ged Coordinator

The Sawyer School

The Sawyer School was a vocational institution primarily focused in preparing people for entry level positions in the medical and general business fields. Before the laws were changed in 2012, students could matriculate at vocational schools without a high school diploma so long as they passed a national standardized tests. Prior to becoming the GED Coordinator, I prepared students to pass the standardized tests. I also taught other Sawyer students in business related courses such as Computer Keyboarding, Business Math, and Business Communications. As GED Coordinator, I not only instructed new students in classes to prepare them to secure their high school diplomas but also worked with existing students in need of their GED diplomas. These classes were given immediately after school for the day students and immediately before school for the night students.
