I've been working in libraries since 1997. I started my career as a library assistant at the Halle Library at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). I worked in the Materials Access (Circulation) Dept for six years. For the first 3 years, I was responsible for ordering and processing interlibrary loans. My final 3 years were spent managing the Course Reserves collection. During my time at EMU, I was enrolled at Wayne State University and earned my MLIS in December of 2003. My first professional job was a short stint as an Adult Services Librarian at the Ypsilanti District Library. Since 2005, I've been working as a Public Services Librarian at the Okemos Branch of the Capital Area District Libraries. My primary roles there have included readers advisory, reference and information desk services, collection development (adult nonfiction and periodicals), and adult programming (book and film discussion groups, ESOL conversation / citizenship test prep groups, and senior citizen programs). I have also been a member of the Michigan Library Association since 2006 and have actively served on various committees and work groups since 2014. I consider myself to be an advocate of life-long learning. I love being a librarian that works directly with patrons to help them satisfy their information needs (educational, entertainment, hobbies, etc.) and I also desire to be of service to the profession as a whole.In my leisure time, I obviously love books and reading (especially audiobooks). My favorite genres are cozy mysteries, history, social sciences, and comparative religion. I also enjoy walking and watching good films (as well as classic campy sci-fi movies). I’m a novice practitioner of Tai Chi and mindfulness meditation.
