During this period, I obtained my GM Certification, and then promoted the values, standards and processes of that program to GM used and new car dealerships all across the Southeastern region of the United States. 150 of the former and 400 of the latter.I made the GM-Certified pitch to GM managers throughout this region, bringing then on board in a way that improved their customer service and brand loyalty, with a measurable impact to the bottom line.I was also in on the ground floor of another GM and GMAC initiative called “Smart Auction,” which provided for online-verification of GM-Certified status of used cars.

I worked my way up through the ranks from Body Shop Manager to Used and then New-Car Sales Manager, and finally Assistant General Manager. My experiences in all those aspects of the business gave me enormous street credibility when it was my job to introduce improvements in the overall operation. As a result of upgrades to the physical facility and some long-needed changes in management procedures, I was able to cut costs, increase sales revenue, and most importantly, increase profits.I also imparted my broad knowledge of the sales and service operations to the new hires and others that needed cross training.
