I strive to automate myself out of a job.My specialties include working with SAS Enterprise Guide, Microsoft Power BI, and multiple relational database management systems (RDBMS) and telling stories in reports, dashboards, or any other system that data needs to be presented in. I’m eager to learn any new systems if it means making the lives of others easier.One of my first jobs in corporate America was a form of data entry where information would be copied and pasted from multiple systems into an Excel spreadsheet to make a business decision. Ever since then I’ve thought there must be an easier way to get all this information in the format it needs to be in without human intervention.This is when I given the responsibility of providing reporting for my team using a Microsoft Access database. Everything ran well enough but to save my back up some time when covering for me I started transitioning the reporting to SQL Server Management Studio for enhanced speed. Later when I inherited a very manual process from a coworker that had hundreds of steps that could easily be forgotten / overlooked. I started using SAS for Windows which allowed for the systematic combining of data from SQL Servers, Teradata warehouses, Excel files, DB2 & Oracle databases without the need to a human to follow hundreds of manual steps. The process time was reduced from 8 hours to 40 minutes.Ever since then I’ve been tenacious to automate every process I can to not only make the lives of others easier but to also make the results more consistent. If it is something written in a procedure for a human to do it should be automated to free up those human resources. I seek that feeling for allowing business partners to do more with the resources available to them.
