Felipe grew up in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, Riverside. He stumbled into teaching while in graduate school when asked to teach a course for undergraduates at Arizona State University. Upon returning to Los Angeles, he was recruited by Los Angeles Unified School District, where he taught high school language arts. After years in the classroom, Felipe co-founded the American Latino Theatre (AmLT) and became a member of the Board of Directors for Nosotros, an arts advocacy organization. As Program Director for AmLT, he secured funding and spearheaded curriculum and outreach to provide arts education for underserved youth. Felipe holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and theatre, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre.Educators 4 Excellence (E4E) is an organization of education professionals who seek to provide an independent voice for educators in the debate surrounding education reform. E4E’s mission is to unite the education community around a shared set of goals, principles, beliefs, and actions, which place student achievement first.
