I am a professional filmmaker, and I am honoured to be part of a team that creates ground-breaking bespoke archives and educational resources for professional dance companies and education departments using pioneering software called 'FORMotion'. FORMotion is software that allows users to load professionally filmed, multi-camera synchronised clips into 2 side-by-side HD screens. Using FORMotion, professional dance companies can permanently archive, view and learn details of dance in a way that has never been possible before. Users can run both or single screens in slow motion; they can define any section they want to work on and have it loop forever; screens can be flipped to provide a 'mirror' image, and one screen can be enlarged over the other - or simply made full screen. The software is also open-ended, so if a company wants to add a particular function (choreographer's narration, or notation, for example) then they can have it. FORMotion runs on most modern laptops/desktops - and even some high-end tablets. For example, a newer MacBook Air easily runs FORMotion with both screens in full HD. For users with older computers, FORMotion can be switched from HD (high definition) to SD (standard definition) mode.We can put anything we like into FORMotion, i.e. one-camera footage you already have. And if a company or university has their own film department, we can consult with them and show them how best to set up their cameras and film their dance works.
