I started my career in landscaping in 1977. A few years later I decided to get my landscaping certification so that I would be able to build my own business and support my family. I owned and operated Geoff Smith Landscaping for 38 years. I recently sold it to one of my top employees so that I may focus on GraniteCrete, Inc. I'm the founder and president of GraniteCrete, Inc. I started the company in 2005 with a vision to create a paving material that has the look and feel of decomposed granite but with the permanence of concrete. I researched and developed what became GraniteCrete, a natural, permanent, and permeable paving material. GraniteCrete is porous and bears the same strength and erosion control of regular concrete, and comes in four colors that complement the natural beauty of your landscape. My proudest moment was when I was approached by Marin Headlands to color-match the paving material to the soil for the turnout points GraniteCrete was paving. By using the spoils from the dig out sites, we were able to perfectly match the color of the GraniteCrete to the mountainside. This was a huge accomplishment for two reasons: it was the first time natural resources were used to color paving material and the project saved money and resources by using the dug out soil on the sight.
