At Abt, I specialized in creating efficient and innovative geospatial data solutions for clients such as the NWS, US EPA, and USACE. For example, using python and parallel processing, I automated workflows and significantly reduced processing times for large datasets such as routing over 10 million historic trips on a custom-designed navigable waterway network. I help administrate Abt's ArcGIS Online Organizations and manage several shared-update groups on EPA's GeoPlatform. I am passionate about designing public-facing mapping tools, dashboards, and StoryMaps. I also co-created a rapid case study framework that uses ethnographic and participatory methods to help the National Weather Service understand the impacts of their knowledge products and services.

As Director of Spatial Data Science, I designed, pitched, and managed multi-scalar projects focused on the geospatial sampling of urban litter and the monitoring of waste infrastructure in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Tanzania, and India. In order to make this work replicable, I worked with our team of engineers, customer success experts, and social scientists to design a scalable platform for conducting citizen science research around the world. For example, I designed and led a series of semi-structured interviews twenty representatives from municipalities under the banner of the City Fingerprint Project. My goal was to identify customer requirements for product development and translate these findings into the development of a SASS platform. In FY 2022, I collaborated with our Sales team to scope and sell domestic and international projects valued at more than $637,000 USD. I supported additional business development opportunities by creating custom presentations and working on project proposals to help current and potential partners understand the applications of litter data and systematic analysis. For example, I wrote code in Python and SQL to extract and publish several million points of Litter Data to ArcGIS Online from MongoDB, enabling Litterati to create a new set of tools for sharing and telling stories about Litter Data. I also publicized Litterati’s expertise in waste management analytics and modeling with a series of social media posts on LinkedIn and research manuscripts, interactive dashboards, and presentations.In addition to raising spatial literacy and awareness about the value of Litter Data on social media, I also mentored several junior analysts and student interns in the best practices for data visualization and spatial data science, gave several guest lectures at North American universities, and published some of our findings via conference posters, research articles, and in online newsletters.

At DPW, I regularly perform spatial and quantitative analysis using ArcGIS Pro, Python, SQL, and Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Power Automate, Forms, and SharePoint. I also conduct anthropological research using semi-structured interviews and participant observation to help identify opportunities for improved operational efficiency and equity. In order to apply my research findings, I often collaborate with BCIT, leadership within DPW and the Bureau of Solid Waste, and external partners. This helps me to streamline data collection workflows for our personnel, fleet, and other assets as an analyst and project manager. Lastly, I work to foster greater transparency and accessibility by creating custom Story Maps, Dashboards, and other interactive Web Applications using ArcGIS Online and PowerBI. For example, since joining DPW last December I have already created the City of Baltimore Recycling Day WebApp; Solid Waste Facilities Interactive WebMap; and the Recycling Rollout ’21 Story Map.

At Datastory, I created custom Story Maps for clients in the healthcare, real-estate, and nonprofit sectors, create premium data layers; perform geospatial analysis (e.g. site suitability assessments, drive time analysis, and network adequacy); and utilize data science to help envision new possibilities on the horizon for ethnography, big data, and the internet of things.

As a member of the Purdue NSF IGERT team, I collaborated with engineers, material scientists, and other social scientists on discovering new ways to live more sustainably with the electronic devices that have become ubiquitous in our daily lives. This NSF IGERT fellowship supported my dissertation research as a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at Purdue University. My dissertation employed anthropology to better understand the life cycle of electronics and electronic-waste in Central Australia. As a visiting Fulbright scholar I conducted independent research on the management of electronic waste in remote and regional Australia. During my fieldwork I utilized semi-structured interviews, participant observation, archival research, and geo-spatial analysis to better understand the role of e-waste in the lives of Central Australians. The qualitative data I collected was transcribed and coded using NVivo. I was honoured to present preliminary findings to the Fulbright Commission at Parliament House in Canberra, the young professionals at the Waste Management Association of Australia, Universities in Australia and the US, and the community of Alice Springs. Throughout the year I collaborated with local council and non-for-profit organisations to design sustainable interventions for managing e-waste. As a key part of my research, I volunteered at a Regional Waste Management Facility and a second hand electronics shop to better understand the full breadth of electronic devices and equipment being wasted, recycled, and recovered in remote Australia. This research will be published as part of my PhD dissertation with Purdue University (est. 2019-2020).

This interdisciplinary NSF IGERT is tasked with researching electronic sustainability. As a member of this IGERT and a graduate student in Anthropology at Purdue University, I conducted ethnographic research on electronic waste in Tippecanoe County, Indiana and Metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. I also gained hands on experience working on interdisciplinary teams conducting life cycle assessments, visiting NGOS and manufacturing facilities during a two week internship in India, and designed a prototype application for swapping and trading goods and services without monetary exchanges.

Responsible for the curation and analysis of fauna remains recovered by Professor Gijanto as part of the Gambia Peace program (2006 through the present). This included the recording of artifact provenience and physical organization of the collection, zooarchaeological analysis of the Berefet 2010 collection, the construction of a Microsoft Access Database to enter and query the fauna's attributes and provience, and a preliminary spatial analysis using GIS. This led to the composition of my senior thesis entitled 'Zooarchaeological Analysis of the Atlantic Trade and European Settlement in the Gambia, West Africa'
