The Center’s mission is to provide the 3 Ms (Management training, Access to Markets, and Money) to traditionally underserved business owners to enhance their ability to foster economic growth and prosperity in their communities. Together, my team secured over 2 million dollars in capital for local businesses over our 10 week internship, smashing our million dollar goal. Additionally, I authored a program manual, outlining the key requirements for setting up and running the program successfully,for the Center, which they hope to use to run the program again in the future and help launch similar programs at the some of their partner institutions around the country. After my junior year of college, I moved to San Francisco, California and worked in KPMG’s Risk Advisory Practice in the IT Audit and Assurance division. This practice focused on helping large enterprises prove their compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations around cyber security and remediate to improve compliance and systems when necessary. This practice focused on helping large enterprises prove their compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations around cyber security and remediate to improve compliance and systems when necessary. As an intern, I took a great deal of initiative to go above and beyond what was required of me and tried to get exposure to responsibilities usually held by senior associates and managers, such as launching new engagements and planning regional headcount, both of which I worked on directly with my manager and director. My clients were mainly large Healthcare Providers and Insurers. Overall, the experience provided me with a taste of the consulting life style (as I was on client sites about 80% of the time and traveled to other cities 4 out of my 8 weeks on the job) and reinforced my desire to seek out a future role more focused on corporate strategy rather than compliance. This 8 week experience greatly improved my abilities in the areas of time, project, and client management, and provided a great opportunity for personal growth as it was my first time moving to a new state and city on my own.
