Following initial studies at Fergus Falls Community College and graduation from St. Olaf College with a music degree, I reset my vocation toward sales, first learning solid sales basics in a stereo retail store. 10 years with Honeywell HVAC automation systems honed my sales skills within the HVAC automation world until my move to become an ABB VFD product specialist with Specified Mechanical Systems in Minneapolis.Using the ACH500 series VFD, we successfully worked to promote ABB in the HVAC marketplace, and to maximize VFD intelligence in standalone applications (without the use of external controllers) for HVAC & municipal pumping and cooling tower systems. Using VFDs and serial communications with local HVAC control houses like JCI (N2) and Siemens (P1-FLN) was also introduced.I spent 2 years as a territory manager with Industrial Drives and Controls in Burnsville, MN, supporting ABB VFDs with distributors and OEMs in three states (none of which were my own), and moved to Mulcahy Company in Eagan, MN to allow more family time, watching my kids' choir concerts and hockey games. It was at Mulcahy that I matured in my VFD specialist role, composing and providing some 200 VFD contractor startup and facility classes for the ACH550 series as well as specializing in VFD sales, startup, and service for HVAC VFDs in Minnesota and North Dakota.I also used my Honeywell automation experience to integrate multiple ABB VFDs for standalone control on duplex and triplex pumping applications, creating installation and control drawings and training contractors to do their own installations and setup.Perhaps my favorite memories of my 22 years at Mulcahy were the opportunities to mentor younger VFD guys coming in behind me, bolstering their sales, technical, and control logic aptitudes within the context of ABB VFDs.Helping my wife fulfill her dream to retire to the Pacific Northwest, we moved to Vancouver, WA, in 2020, and I continued with Mulcahy Company for two more years as remote VFD inside support. Completing the training of the Mulcahy VFD guys coming behind me, I resigned and arrived at Johnson Barrow in Portland, OR, to assist in their transition to ABB HVAC VFDs in Oregon and southwest Washington.Besides working with a great sales team at "JBO," I also constructed a new ABB VFD startup guide specifically for the new ABB ACH580 series drive and have provided many VFD classes for contractors and facilities.At this point, I am getting ready for retirement and looking forward to travelling and discovering the wines of the Pacific Northwest.
