In 1984, Greg Smith joined Adelaide’s SA.FM as Program Director. At that time the radio station was placed fourth in the ratings. Within two surveys, SA.FM created Australian radio history by becoming the first FM station to rate number one with all people 10+ in a mainland capital city. SA.FM’s parent company, Austereo, purchased Fox FM in Melbourne in 1986 and the station also hit number one with Greg now working as Austereo’s Group Program Director.One of his proudest moments came in March 1992 when every FM station owned by Austereo was number one at the same time in a single survey period. In 1995, Greg established esp, a successful radio & research consulting business, servicing radio stations around the world and designing research projects for two of Australia's free to air commercial television networks.Greg was inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame in 2007 for his contribution to the development of FM radio in Australia. “Greg had an uncanny understanding of the needs and motivations of the audience and he was pivotal in creating a distinct new style and sound for FM radio in Australia,” Joan Warner CEO Commercial Radio Australia.The Hall of Fame recipients are nominated by industry peers and are selected by a high-level judging committee.From March 2009 until October 2011, Greg served on the board of MCM Entertainment Group as a Non-Executive Director & Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. MCM Entertainment Group Limited (MEG) was involved in providing media entertainment, digital solutions and new media technical organisations.In 2016 Greg conducted a strategic review of Boost Juice for the parent company, Retail Zoo.In February 2019, Greg designed & supervised an Australian wide online research study for Betty's Burgers.Greg is a consultant for Yo-Chi.
