My responsibilities here include assembly, test and troubleshooting of navigation systems related to commercial and military aircraft, as part of the New Products Introduction team. The products include state of the art sensor systems (LWIR and Visible), Optical systems, such as Head Up Guidance Systems and related hardware. Testing includes FTP/ATP tests at Ambient, Vibration and Thermal Cycle/ESS/HASS test environments.

After Boeing acquired the aerospace businesses of Rockwell International, we became Boeing employees, performing the same work processes at the same work centers as before with Rockwell.

After return to Autonetics from Space Division - Palmdale; Performed test and troubleshooting on Inertial Navigation system components related to the ESGN system (Electrically Suspended Gyro Navigator), including high precision mechanical gyroscopes, and stable platform electronics (ICA - Integrated Control Assembly). I also performed test and troubleshooting on the Trident Ships Control Station.

Palmdale Ca - Plant 42

Here I performed work on a number of Space Shuttle projects, including refurbishment, test and troubleshooting of Space Shuttle hardware during OMDP (Orbiter Maintenance Down Period). I also spent a number of months working at the Downey facility on behalf of Palmdale Space Division, performing assembly, test and operational tasks during validation of the Orbiter Docking System (ODS), including Mission Support during the initial Shuttle/MIR docking missions, STS-71 and STS-74.

I first joined the Autonetics Division of Rockwell International in March of 1983, which began a decade of work on these state of the art programs:> SINS (Ships Inertial Navigation System) - Board, Unit and System-Level performance test and troubleshooting.> ESGM (Electrically Suspended Gyro Monitor) - Board, Unit and System-level performance test and troubleshooting.> Trident SCS (Ships Control Station) - Board, panel and system performance test and troubleshooting.> Peacekeeper (MX Missile) MECA (MIssile Electronics Computer Assembly) and MGCS (Missile Guidance Control System) - Vibration, Thermal and Acceptance test, troubleshooting at the board, unit and system level. Assisted in performing QUAL level performance test at offsite laboratory.> AIRS Draper IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) - Assembly, Integration, and test at the card and unit level.> GPS Satellite - Functional and acceptance test at the board and LRU level, including vibration, thermal cycle and thermal vacuum testing (for space certification) - 5 different black box types.

I began my career at Rockwell International as an Electrical Installer - Fabricating and installing Wire Harnesses into the Space Shuttle Crew Module and Aft Fuselage. I eventually transferred to the Test Department, performing circuit analysis on Space Shuttle Wiring as part of the DITMCO test team. While I missed the production phase on Space Shuttle Columbia, I started working during the Challenger production phase, and worked on Discovery and Atlantis hardware during this segment of my career. I would finally get a chance to work on Columbia and Endeavor during OMDP work in Palmdale Space Division, as described later.
