I worked voluntarily on a freelance basis, producing artwork when requested by the charity. I had to be flexible and manage my time upon request.

I designed brochures, postcards, menus and various other print materials for Hotels, restaurants and spa facilities throughout the UK and Channel Islands. Ideas had to continuously flow in a high pressure environment to ensure production of original and creative artwork. Everything had to be thoroughly proof checked and perfectly prepared for print, with communication in the team being vital. Situated next door to the print company, I gained knowledge and experience of the printing process.

My duties were to update and improve all web site content to make it student friendly and make sure it complies with equality and diversity guidelines in addition to making recommendations for further development.

In this appointment at the top of an organisation comprising 40 full-time staff and 200 part-time staff I developed and oversaw communication strategies and produced publications designed to keep a diverse population of 17,000+ involved and engaged. I built networks with a wide variety of stakeholders including students, BU staff and the local community. I took an active role in listening to our members, campaigning on topics of interest and using members’ views and feedback to define the strategic direction of the Union. I trained, developed and mentored 13 members of our Executive Committee in project management, campaign planning and team leadership. Managing a team of four communications staff allowed me to apply my own project management and leadership skills.
