Hayden is a Partner, Head of Climate & Sustainability Consulting, part of the Climate & Sustainability team, an FT Innovative Lawyer Award winning practice. He has over 25 years’ experience in pioneering the integration of sustainability / ESG within financial services and corporates. He has lead development of global standards, and brought award winning services to market. By focusing on operational good practice implementation, he strives for positive real world outcomes and enhanced sustainability performance for clients. In November 2024, Hayden was recognised as an inaugural “Legal 500 Green Ambassador” as making a “significant contribution to the green transition, demonstrating a strong sustainability-related work portfolio, and supporting wider engagement with green initiatives”.Hayden has a focus on integrating sustainability across operational functions. This includes aspects across: compliance, board strategy, internal governance, materiality, audit & risk, metrics & targets, stakeholder engagement, disclosure, anti-greenwashing. Previously Hayden was a Director with Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, formed following privatisation of the UK Green Investment Bank, where he set up the innovative green governance framework from first inception. GIB was set up by the UK Government and was the world’s first such green institution. Hayden is a collaborative sustainability specialist, integrating best practice principles, focusing on private markets. He has particular experience in fund management (especially private equity), debt capital markets (loans, bonds), and project finance. He advises on aspects of: due diligence, fund formation, value enhancement, reporting & disclosure, compliance, transformational change, organisational transition, policies, processes, governance, and capacity building. As global convener for leading the international ISO standard ‘Sustainable Finance: Principles and Guidance’, (ISO 32210), Hayden currently leads experts from over 25 countries which published the first global sustainability standard for financial organisations, 2022. He led development of the FAST Infrastructure Label, launched at COP by the CEO of HSBC, and now licensed to Bloomberg and Global Infrastructure Basel, 2023. Hayden represents FAST Infra Group on the Label’s Steering Committee. Hayden is honoured to be a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, which is recognised by IEMA as “the ultimate indicator of significant professional contribution, experience and expertise”.
