Leading a group of experts from over 25 countries in the development of the global ISO Sustainable Finance Standard, ISO 32210, published October 2023.This standard provides guidance on principles, practices and terminology at a framework level to support organizations wanting to integrate sustainability into their investment and management practices and to facilitate the financing and development of new sustainable assets. This includes environmental, social and governance (ESG) best practice considerations.

Hayden was Director of Sustainable Finance at the UK Green Investment Bank plc (GIB), since privatised by UK Government and is now Green Investment Group, part of Macquarie Capital. Under UK Government ownership, GIB invested in projects which were both green and commercial, where public capital was additional to available private sector finance. GIB backed 100 green infrastructure projects, committing c.£3bn to the UK’s green economy into transactions worth over £10bn in Capex. These projects deliver significant annual positive impacts:• 21.5TWh renewable energy = enough to power 5.2m UK homes• 8.0m t CO2 e greenhouse gas emissions avoided = equivalent to taking 3.4m UK cars off the road• 3.2m tonnes landfill avoided = waste of 3.3m UK householdsHayden was the lead author of the Green Investment Handbook (initially published in full at GIB and still used in-house). This sets out best practice in the assessment, monitoring and reports of green infrastructure projects and energy demand reduction investments. Due to global demand, it has been widely translated (e.g. Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic). The summary handbook is available for free download: greeninvestmentgroup.com/green-impact/green-investment-handbook/ In the early development of GIB, Hayden designed and implemented GIB's Green Investment Policy and Responsible Investment Policy which were applied to all direct investments made. This ensured good practice in green impact and ESG considerations were integrated into GIB's investment and reporting activities. In 2015, GIB formed a JV with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (now BEIS), to invest up to £200m in green and profitable projects in India and Africa. Hayden led development of the JV's transformational change framework to consider social and environmental impacts on investment decision-making and monitoring.
