I was employed as a Captain on the Cessna Grand Caravan EX, conducting passenger transfers.The majority of our flights were from Port Elizabeth International Airport to surrounding game lodges. However we also conducted flights to/from George, Plettenberg Bay, Cape Town, East London and Lanseria.As a Captain, I was not only responsible for the safe conduct of each flight, but also kept track of maintenance, scheduling, some client inquiries, and the operational and administrative side of our base of operations.

The Red Cross Air Mercy Service provides aeromedical transfers in the PC-12 Air Ambulance.As a Captain, I was responsible for checking weather, planning flights, filing flight plans, and ensuring that the aircraft was airworthy. The ultimate safety of the flight was my responsibility.When not flying, my role involved admin which entailed making sure the aircraft documentation was kept up to date.I was fortunate enough to work with a diverse group of individuals in an environment that emphasised team work in order to complete each mission as safely and efficiently as possible.Flying an Air Ambulance posed unique challenges and opportunities, and I was exposed to a wide range of environments from time-critical missions to severe weather.
